Hello everyone, here’s a quick update from Portishead Chamber. What we’ve been doing and also what you could be doing to get more out of the Chamber.

chairman addresses breakfast meeting at the Royal InnRecent events run by the Chamber include a seminar in September on Planning Your Marketing Priorities. Presented by one of our members Ros Conkie, so a big thank you to her.

The latest breakfast was on 5th October and went very well and it was great to see several new faces there. Our speaker from the Regional Cyber Crime Unit gave a very interesting and useful talk on the latest types of cybercrime and what we could do to protect ourselves and businesses. If I took one thing from it (or maybe two) it was to make sure to use strong passwords and to ensure you are backing up so if the worse does happen, your business doesn’t suffer too much!

The next event we have coming up is a business seminar taking place on 8th November. The title of this interactive talk is “Emergent Genius – Nest Level Leadership” and it is aimed at those looking to improve their leadership skills in business and to develop themselves in their personal life.

We are now finalising details for the Chamber Christmas event, so look out for more news on this soon. We are planning a Christmas lunch this year and we really hope lots of members will be able to take an hour or two out of their day to join us.

The Chamber has just over 100 members here in Portishead and is run by a committee made up of members. The Chamber is really about members getting involved and it would be great to get some new committee members on board for 2019.

Being on the committee doesn’t take up a great deal of time and meetings are held about every 6 weeks for about an hour. Depending on skills, there may be projects you can get involved with which would then take up time to a level you are able to give it.

You don’t need any set skills, but energy and enthusiasm would be lovely and if you have specific skills we will do our best to make use of them. For example, someone in PR, could write Press releases, a graphic designer could help us with design of e-mailings etc.

talk from southwest regional cybercrime unitWe are also looking for new President for next year as my term comes to an end, so if there is anyone out there who likes the idea of leading the Chamber, please get in touch. It’s a great way to get involved with the local business community and again no special qualifications needed just a little spare time and lots of enthusiasm.

Maybe becoming a committee member isn’t for you, but how about writing a Member’s blog for our website. If you can use your expertise to write an article that will be of value and interest to other businesses we would love to hear from you.

Finally, if you are non-member reading this article, why not join us, you’ll find details of what we offer and an application form on our website.

Here’s to a great last quarter of 2018 and I look forward to catching up with some of you at future events.

Kim Batchelor – President – Portisehad Chamber of Commerce
